67 Event Ideas you didn't know you needed

One day while exhibiting at a consumer expo, I started looking at people and wondering about their story.  It was one of those “mind, body, spirit” type expos so there was a diverse audience of fascinating people, all wandering by, looking for some magic.  Some would stop and chat with me, others would look at my IRL Instagram wall – but I could see that all of them were looking for something.

I love exhibiting at expos because I love chatting with people and learning about their lives.  At expos I also get to test out messaging, do market research and get a bit more clarity on the type of people I want to serve, and how I need to show up for them.

[side note: It’s also a great way to see what your competition looks like, how popular they are, and hear firsthand their messaging and customer engagement.]

The expo traffic was slow, so while I was standing there watching the people wander around, I started to play around with the idea of creating individual workshops, just for them. Imagining what they might need or want.

That family that just walked past – the mum, dad and 2 kids.  They look active, like they’re looking for something fun and active to do – what kind of workshop would I create for them?  (how about #7 or #26).

Or those 3 mums with their 3 daughters, all of whom are on the verge of a complete life transition – what do they need? (maybe #16, #17 or #38).

But what was so interesting was how quickly all these workshops came to me as the people approached.  It was like I could see exactly what they wanted or needed, like words swirling around their heads.  Some were hilarious, others were sweet, some didn’t quite come through (#65) and others hit me like a bad haircut on day two (#41).

Why am I sharing this you might ask?  Well of course I think you might find a piece of gold amongst those workshops – for one I know someone who has already launched a version of #5.  But more importantly, I want to demonstrate the value of just sitting and noticing, and letting your mind play and explore.
